I already said I am not best friends with the USA. Incidentally I am not best friends with Taiwan neither, though I hope that the discussion can return to the thread topic.

However you should confirm this statement. Last I checked there are Russian, European, Japanese, Indian and other satellites of other nations in orbit. What did the Americans actually say?

Premise One: What is known geographically as Taiwan is an independent soverign -- the Republic of Taiwan.
Premise Two: The Republic of Taiwan is not the same as the Republic of China
Premise Three: The Founding Father of ROC is Sun Yat Sun
Conclusion: Therefore, any mention of Sun Yat Sun as the founding father of the state should be removed from the textbook which is supposed to record the history of the Republic of Taiwan, not ROC.

This arguement will have to hinge upon Premise One to be true. Can you independently prove this to be so? Bear in mind that their passports invariably show the name of "Republic of China".

The Republic of Taiwan is a transient entity. The spirit of defiance and self-determination remains strong especially in the south, but you are right that the Republic of Taiwan was not a sovereign state at the same time as the Republic of China. The Taiwan of today is more a legacy of ROC.

Founders of both states should be mentioned in the textbooks. I already said that I disagree with the textbook changes.

I only hope to provide the perspective that when the KMT government escaped to Taiwan and setup a martial-law controlled state there, there is a strong negative sentiment from the local-born populace. This schizm persists till today.

I am not going to take sides; this entanglement is way too confusing for me.
